How did I get infected with Isasus?

The Isasus PUP is part of the massive “Add Extension” Scam. The scheme is simple, yet, genius. You get redirected to unknown websites. There, a message reads “Are you sure to leave this site?.” The website was just loaded. You haven’t got the chance to attempt to leave yet. However, this message appeared. It provides two buttons “Leave” and “Stay.” If you click on either of the buttons, you will enable your browser’s full-screen mode. Your cursor will start to blink. The website is trying to disorient you. It has a malicious code that prevents you from leaving it. If you are not sure how to close this tab, use your Task Manager to close your entire browser. Truth is, the crooks need your assistance. They cannot install Isasus without your approval. So, they resorted to trickery. Stay away from suspicious websites. Your caution can keep your computer safe. Other distribution methods used by Isasus are the good old spam emails, torrents, and freeware/shareware bundling. Yet, all these techniques will fail if you are vigilant and doubting. Whenever you are installing a program, opt for advanced installation option. Under it, you will be presented with a list of additional programs that are about to be installed. Do not hesitate to use the advanced installation. It is not complicated. By using it, you can deny the installation of any unwanted program. And, do not even think about skipping the terms and conditions. This step is your last chance to spot breaches. If you think that something looks suspicious, there probably is a good reason for that. Abort the installation immediately. The Internet is bursting with viruses. You can never know where one may strike from!

Why is Isasus dangerous?

The Isasus utility is annoying and frustrating. It bombards you with advertisements, redirects you constantly and slows your network connection down. Yet, these issues are minor compared to what the PUP does behind your back. This malicious utility tracks your browser related data. It knows your favorite websites, which pages you’ve visited, ads you’ve clicked on, search inquiries you’ve made, etc. This information is analyzed and sold to third parties. The problem is, some personally identifiable information may also get recorded. If, for example, you use your PC to make an online purchase or to pay the bills, the PUP will record your credit card details, username, password and billing address. Can you imagine what may happen if this information becomes a possession of a cyber criminal? Do not wait for this scenario to unfold. However, there is more. The privacy issue is barely the tip of the iceberg. Isasus is also exposing your computer’s security at risk. The malicious utility does not check what kind of advertisements are behind displayed by its services. Hackers often use such apps to spread corrupted links. If you have the misfortune to click on one such a link, you may download more malware or viruses directly on your computer. Isasus is a giant hole in your defense wall. Take immediate measures. The sooner you remove this parasite, the better!
